Happy Monday! There’s nothing better than Netflix and sweet tea, Y’all!!! There isn’t anything I really love more. I absolutely LOVE Netflix and sweet tea…so much so that I barely watch the shows on the traditional larger Networks, you know NBC, ABC, CBS, etc or drink much of anything else (h2O not included). I don’t know, it’s like Netflix has shows these networks would never air. You get it all on Netflix…every genre you can imagine! And as most of you know, I am a serious sweet tea drinker. I have it everyday! And of course, whether I’m binge-watching, have Netflix on in the background while working, or just catching up on an episode, Netflix and Sweet Tea go hand-in-hand. Heck, sweet tea goes with EVERYTHING!
This is my first Netflix top picks post. These are either shows I’ve already watched, in the midst of watching, or saved in my list to watch.
With that being said, let’s get into some Netflix goodness!
1 | Friends from College, Season 1 | I discovered this show over the weekend and binged the majority of it Saturday and Sunday. I can’t believe it came out years ago. I absolutely LOVE Keegan-Michael Key on a spiritual level. It’s hilarious, such a talented group of actors, and I can’t wait to catch up on Season 2.
2 | Schitt’s Creek | This show gave me so much LIFE!!! This is one of the most hilarious shows out there! My daughter actually recommended this show to me. David is my absolute favorite of the show. He is just Laugh-Out-Loud hilarious!!! His expressions are so GIF worthy (and there are so many of them out there)! Moira and Alexis…I just can’t describe them without saying hilarious! PLEASE WATCH THIS SHOW…if you haven’t already!
3 | Jane the Virgin | This is another one of my favorite shows that is in its last season. #sadface Recommended to me by my daughter! Synopsis: The daughter of a teen mother, Jane Villanueva grew up determined not to repeat her mom’s mistakes. At 23, her life is on track; Jane is studying to be a teacher and engaged to a handsome detective who supports her decision to remain a virgin until marriage. Then a routine clinic visit flips her life upside down. Inseminated by a specimen meant for a patient in the next room, now-pregnant Jane is in a situation made only more insane when she learns that the sperm donor is her boss, Rafael. As her meticulously planned life gets more like the telenovelas she loves, she faces a lot of complicated decisions about where to go from here. Petra and Rogelio are my favorite characters. Get to watching and you’ll understand why! Oh, and #teamrafael
4 | Crazy Ex-Girlfriend | If you love laughing out loud – I think you’ll love this! Synopsis: This musical comedy-drama, successful, driven, high-powered attorney Rebecca Bunch panics when she is offered a partnership at her Manhattan law firm. Inspired by a run-in with Josh, the ex-boyfriend she never got over, Rebecca impulsively moves across the country to West Covina, California – Josh’s hometown. Although Rebecca is unable to admit that she moved to follow Josh, her new coworker, Paula, is instantly on to her and becomes her greatest ally in trying to get him back. However, their plan hits several roadblocks as Rebecca learns that Josh already has a serious girlfriend and then begins to casually date his best friend Greg.
Rachel Bloom created this show and is the star. It’s just amazing to me how writers come up with the comedic lines that they do. I love how they incorporate singing and dancing in the show. Just the perfect hilarious blend! Recommended to me by, yes, my daughter!
5 | Anne with an E |This is a really cute and refreshing show that my daughter told me about. I love that whenever Anne introduces herself, she actually says ‘Anne with an E’. Synopsis: This is a coming-of-age story about a young orphan who is seeking love, acceptance and her place in the world. Anne is a 13-year-old who has endured an abusive childhood in orphanages and the homes of strangers. In the late 1890s, Anne is mistakenly sent to live with aging siblings, Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert, who live on Prince Edward Island. Anne, who proves to be uniquely spirited, imaginative and smart, transforms the lives of Marilla, Matthew and everyone else in their small town.
6 | Bloodline | From the outside looking in, you’d wish you were a part of the family. But in the real world, disfunctional family at its worst. Synopsis: Bloodline is a dramatic thriller that explores the demons lurking beneath the surface of a contemporary American family. The Rayburns are hard-working pillars of their Florida Keys community, but their past contains dark secrets that they hope remain buried. Paranoia and mistrust build as lies pile up, alliances are shattered, and an unthinkable crime takes place. The tight-knit family’s formerly harmonious relationship deteriorates, and good people are forced to consider doing very bad things.
Mark actually told me about this show. Season 1, I had sooo many questions. Season 2, those questions were answered. Season 3, every episode was a cliffhanger and had me on the edge of my seat. This show actually aired from 2015-2017. So unfortunately for me, there will be no Season 4. 😪
7 | All American | Mark started watching this show on Saturday. Every once in a while, I would come in and watch bits and pieces with him. And to my surprise, this is a show that I put in my ‘Watch List’. So now I’m trying not to watch it with him so that I can start from Episode 1 without knowing exactly what’s going on. Just a quick synopsis: High-school football player at Crenshaw (Spencer) is convinced to play for Beverly High (Beverly’s coach, Billy, recuited him). The coach’s son (Jordan) finds out that his father (the coach) is actually Spencer’s father. Of course there are other going-ons in the show. Can’t wait to start on this one!
Some of my other favorites:
The Good Place – The Haunting of Hill House (can’t wait for the 2nd season!) – Selling Sunset – The Kominsky Method
YOU – The Five – The Umbrella Academy – The Crown – Sex Education – Grace & Frankie – Sabrina
If you’re looking for new shows to watch, I hope these recommendations help. And if you have a show you love that isn’t on my list, I’d love to hear about it!
Thank you so much for reading and sharing. And as always, have a beautiful day! XOXO, Candy
PS – Happy April Fools! This might be my favorite and the funniest blog prank I’ve come across! What do you think?
