I’ve been traveling to Italy each summer for the past four years and this year will make my fifth visit. Yep, you read that correctly, my FIFTH visit. When I made my first trip, to say I fell in love would be a super duper understatement. I’ve traveled quite a bit internationally and I just really seem to be drawn to the beautiful country of Italy. If you’ve been following me, you know I am heading to Greece later this month. But before setting foot in Mykonos and Santorini, we will be spending a couple of days in Athens. Of course I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I guess you can say I’m a repeat offender when it comes to my travels. As much as I enjoy discovering new countries, I take such great pleasure in visiting my favorite country of Italy. And just so you know, I have absolutely no affiliation in Italy – I just really love the place!!!
Here are the reasons I keep returning by order of my top three favorite cities.
This has got to be my favorite Italian city! And I really can’t put my finger on it as of why. Before we visited the island for the first time, G. Boo asked how I learn about this place and why I wanted come here. As a teen, everyone always told me I lived in fairytale world. I remember always reading about how the Kennedy’s used to vacation on Ischia Island and I’ve always known it was a place I wanted to visit. And it ended up being my favorite spot.
The island is pretty small. We rented a scooter and drove completely around the island in two hours. For an island of its size, Ischia Island actually is flowing with restaurants that has some of the most amazing food. The boutique shopping is wonderful (no chains here, thank God). And the best is it isn’t crowded like a lot of the other Italian cities are. We never had to wait for tables. We always had a spot on the beach. We never had to stand in line for attractions.
And it’s beautiful. I mean, it’s not over the top. But water is everywhere and water symbolizes beauty to me.
Amalfi Coast:The Amalfi Coast is a lot like Ischia Island. The only two differences to me are 1) it’s actually connected to the mainland, and 2) It can get a bit crowded. But as far as the food, the beauty, and the water, it’s so much like Ischia…which is why the Amalfi Coast is my second favorite. I love how if you wanted to take a day trip, other wonderful towns are just a bus ride over such as Positano, Salerno, and Sorrento, which is where you would get your shopping done. And I think my favorite part is how some restaurants are on the water and the only way to get there is by boat. During one of our visits here with my parents, we actually had the entire restaurant to ourselves! They opened up early for us and offered us so much outside of what we ordered. Italians are such a delight! Florence
Before we visited Florence for the very first time, we only scheduled one day to tour. What a BIG mistake that was! I was so impressed with Florence that I made sure we devoted more time to this beautiful city the next year. There was so much we missed the first time that I could’ve kicked myself.
There is so much to see and explore in Florence. I feel like even though I’ve been there three times, there’s still so much more I haven’t visited and need to see. The art, food, architecture, and history is absolutely amazing. Seeing Michelangelo’s David in all his glory was a wonderful highlight! Ha Ha! But the biggest shocker was the shopping. This place is a shopper’s paradise. Florence is a HUGE oversite by so many. I ALWAYS tell others who are visiting the region to carve out at least two days for Florence. And they’re always glad they did. And I can’t wait to return to Florence once again. I’m very excited to be headed back to Italy for a fifth time this summer…even though it is only for two days. Have you ever visited Italy before? If so, where did you visit and what do you love most about the country? I’d love to know!
Thank you so much for reading. And as always, have a beautiful day.
