Happy New Years + 2017 Goals

“Cheers to a New Year and another chance for us to get it right.” Oprah Winfrey

Happy New Year! Although new to the blogging world, I can say that I ended the New Year with somewhat of a bang…in Brazil!!! George has been trying to get me there for almost four years and I finally gave in to him. And thank God I did! It was such a wonderful experience that we plan on visiting again sometime next year.

While there, I did a little reflecting on the things I want to improve, change, and add to my life. So today I want share some of my goals for 2017 with you.

Blog Content I posted my first blog post on Thanksgiving, November 24, 2016. Although Keeping Up With Candy a just over a month old…as well as my IG and Twitter…I have had great responses from you!!! Although I am in the infant stages of the blogging world, I expected to be where I am now at least 3 – 4 months from now.

For the next few months, I will be working with various photographers until I find one I am comfortable with, who can give me great shots, and who can inspire me in front of the camera. I am also hoping to come up with a posting schedule. Posting content four days a week would be idea for me at this moment.

I will also be researching and purchasing photography equipment for at home use…recipes, DIY, personal, and beauty.

The last thing I want to mention is the goal of starting my online boutique starting this Spring. But that solely depends on my following.

I just want to bring great content to you. If I can inspire just one person, that would make my heart happy. But I need for you to comment so that I will know!!!

“We travel not to escape life but for life not to escape us.” Anonymous

Travel George and I are huge travelers! Even though this blog is only a month old, we’ve done quite a bit of traveling this year. And we plan to do even more this year. We try to do two international trips per year. But this year we have three planned and that just makes my traveling heart excited.  Workout I’m always complaining about my body. I have the unfortunate pleasure of having an inverted triangle body type…meaning I have a larger upper body (broad shoulders, wide back, and big arms) and a thinner lower body (read: skinny legs). Although I should be doing it mostly for my health, I really want to workout for physical reason. I’ve recently realized I can have the body I want. Cardio: burn fat (upper body) – Muscle training: legs (lower body).

I’m the type of person who hates working out. I desperately want to work out but have just never had the motivation to do so. I’ve always wished I were one of those people who feels like their day doesn’t go right if they don’t work out. Yes, we all know someone like that! Although I’ve tried to make this a goal since forever without much success, I’ve gotta keep trying right? Who knows? Maybe this will be the year I see it through! Pleasant Personality I’m always being told by my family that when I first meet people, I am not a pleasant or friendly person. I’m often described as cold, aloof, stand-off’ish, not wanting to be bothered, stuck-up…which gives others the wrong impression of me. So I’ve promised myself that whenever I meet someone for the first time, I will make it a point to smile, hug (I don’t shake hands…LoLoL), and engage in a cordial conversation with them. I figure if I do this enough, eventually it will come naturally to me. Kitchen Let’s be real here: I’m a great cook. But I need to branch out more. I’m really great with ‘soul food’ and grilling (Southern Girl), but I’d like to learn be more of a gourmet cook. With Google, food blogs, and YouTube, there’s really no excuse but to do it. So I plan to learn to cook a new dish once a month #letsberealistic A New Home Later in the year, I am anticipating changes within my household. Therefore, the condo living is out and a real single-family house will be in. #fistpumpLove Me For Who I Am I know I’m not the Lone Ranger here, but I am VERY critical of myself. I feel like nothing about me is great…physically. My body type, my teeth, my hair, my skin, my smile, my arms, EVERYTHING!!! I am so unhappy with my physical body but never do anything about it. While I can’t change my smile, I can do so much about the rest (workout, skin & hair regimen). But most importantly, I can and should learn to love and embrace what was given to me.!!!

2016 has been a pretty good year for me but I’m anticipating 2017 being a GREAT year for my family and me (for personal reasons). I want to thank each of you for taking the time to stop by and showing my blog, Instagram, and Twitter some love. And I hope you stay awhile…

I would love to hear some of your goals. And let me know how you brought the new year in! Seriously, I want the deets!!!

Lastly, don’t forget to enter the $500 Amazon Gift Card giveaway here. The last day to enter is January 13, 2017. If you win, what a great way to start off the new year!!

Reflections as we approach the end of this 1st month of this new year.
Thank you for being vulnerable. We all can learn to give more in that department. I feel strongly that when we do its love that we will receive in return.
You & G’s travels inspire me & keep me dreaming that in the future we will be able to see the world as well.
Until such time my Goals are to explore more of these Bay Area cities that are new to us.
I can relate also when it comes to searching for the perfect photographer for your specific needs.
My Goal this year is another creative & alluring Mommie & Me shoot.
I need that diamond in the rough photographer with an amazing eye & lighting skills.
I personally enjoy working with new photographers that I can develop a long term relationship with.
As they grow, so do we. I enjoy seeing that growth develop over time.
The right photographers will come your way & bring you new perspectives. I enjoy the pictures that you take so just keep shooting.
The food you cook is yummy! When I see interesting recipes, I will share them with you.
My Goals in that area are to try new recipes & not get stuck doing my same ole & also try new adult beverages 🙂
I look forward to your online shop! You have my full support.
Your fashion sense inspires me to stop being a lazy mommy with little time for herself & pampering needs when it comes to loving on ME. So I need those reminders to keep me on track.
My Goals are to keep sewing & looking for inspiration as well as running a luxurious bath for myself weekly & doing my nails!!!
I recently used Coconut Milk in my bath & feel in love with it. My tub looks like soup when I am done adding all my ingredients but I keep reminding myself that Self Care Is Self Love.
When it comes to home it really is whenever your heart is but us southern gals like our space to create. I enjoyed the experience of that condo unit in Berkeley with its modern living but I 2 craved that single home unit feel.
My Goals are to learn how to reupholster my chairs & Chaise lounge, beautifully chalk paint my daughters bedroom furniture as well as incorporate more African print fabric into my decor.
As far as working out my Goals are to become more consistent with my Kemetic Yoga routine. Even if I can just do 10 mins twice a week that’s better than what Ive been doing. Plus I feel great afterwards. S
So let that good feeling & results be our inspiration to work out more consistently.
My impression of your personality is that has always been pleasant. I also work to keep in mind that I must allow people the space to open up to me when they are ready as to not miss out on wonderful relationships.
Ive been pushing myself to stay engaged longer (GOAL) when meeting people in passing.
Sometimes it appears that people are surprised when I smile at them and say Hi.
Not everyone responds but I just keep moving 🙂
Always remember that regardless of any flaws that you see in yourself, there are plenty of people that think the world of you & how love you & accept you for who you are. Lea & I are 2 of those people.
Lastly my Goals are to continue to grow spiritually as well as step into my true femininity and self confidence.
Got to keep counting all these blessings! This will be our best year yet!
