Bahamas Vacation

It’s been 15 years since I last visited Nassau, Bahamas, and Boy am I glad I was able to return again.

PRELUDE:

Last Thursday, my flight was scheduled for 9:25am but was seriously delayed!!! They told us it was delayed til 12:15pm, then it was 2:25, and then 3:15pm. Our flight didn’t leave til 4pm!!!!!!! Of course I was pissed, but what could I do? I  ended up working from my office (the airport) the entire time. OH, and it was my BIRTHDAY!!!!! The purpose of this trip was to celebrate my birthday and watch the University of Memphis basketball team. So I basically missed my birthday because I didn’t get there til after 8pm. I guess there’s always next year…

Anyhoo, picture perfect beaches make the Bahamas a popular destination for millions of tourists every year, especially cruise ship visitors and Americans. There are a huge range of historical, cultural, and natural attractions in this country. Unfortunately, I didn’t really get to explore the island, but hope to do so on my next visit to this beautiful island.

Where We Stayed:

I had the extreme pleasure of staying and enjoying myself at The Grand Hyatt Baha Mar Resort. Like I mentioned earlier, it was night by the time I got there. When the taxi pulled onto the property (a short 12 minute drive), the massiveness and all the lights of the property literally BLEW. ME. AWAY. I took soooo many pictures throughout the property, I tried really hard not to post too many photos of it because this is suppose to be a ‘Bahamas’ post and not a ‘Grand Hyatt Baha Mar’ post. But considering I spent the majority of my time on the property, it was hard not to do so. Even the basketball games were on the property: the Convention Center is adjacent to the hotel.

When I walked into our suite (living room), I was blown away. The bright colors, crispness, and size made the suite absolutely stunning. Pictures don’t do it justice at all! When I walked into the bedroom….well see below!!! My name in chocolates!!!! (Not pictured: large fruit platter and bottle of merlot.) Oh yeah, we stayed in the One-Bedroom King Ocean-Front Suite…940 square feet.

The Grand Hyatt Baha Mar is suppose to be the competition to Atlantis. I’m sorry, but NO COMPARISON!!!! How old is The Atlantis?!?

Exactly!!!!

I’ve stayed in a LOT of beautiful hotels, but something about this one…I just fell in love. I plan on coming back to visit the Bahamas next year and you can best believe I will be making the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar my home. I could go on and on and on about this resort. But you would have to visit just to understand. Words and photos just don’t do it justice.

Where We Ate:

To be honest with you, Mark and I spent the majority of our time on the property. We had only one meal outside of the resort at another resort.

Katsuya: This is where I was supposed to have my birthday dinner. But thanks to Delta Airline, I arrived eight hours late. Even though everyone had already eaten, they still waited on me and let me have my ‘makeup’ dinner. This restaurant was a stunner!!! There were sooo many areas in this Japanese restaurant. The presentation and full-flavor of food, ambiance, friendly staff, and great friends made up for the shi++y day I’d had.

3 Tides Fish House: We had breakfast here each morning. The food here was also just as flavorful and plentiful. We ate outdoors each morning where we were able to see the water show minus the lights. I hate I didn’t get to see the water show at night.

The Palms: This cheerful poolside spot offers light breakfast items and a lunch menu of appetizers, salads, burgers, jerk chicken and fish, and assorted beverages including frozen daiquiris, cocktails, wine, and beer. For lunch, I ended up getting the fish sandwich and a super sweet and fruity cocktail while Mark opted for the tuna tacos. We left satisfied.

Carna by Dario Cecchini: This is a contemporary steakhouse concept helmed by the legendary butcher, Dario Cecchini. We ate here as a group of nine. A bit slow with getting our food out, but it was well worth it. It’s also really pricey! But again, great atmosphere, great service, great cuisine!

Twenty-six restaurants on the property and we only dined at four of them.

Dune: We ate here with another group of friends. We drove over to the Four Seasons The Ocean Club. The service was impeccable. And the view….Oh My Goodness. The property itself is simply gorgeous. The lawn facing the beach reminded me so much of the series Bloodline. Simple elegant beauty. Eventually I would LOVE to come back and stay at this property.

What We Did

Like I said before, we spent most of our time on the property because there was just so much to do. We gambled a bit (something I really enjoy doing), hung out at the pool, and ate. I also mentioned that the Convention Center is located on the property, adjacent to the hotel. The purpose of visiting the Bahamas was to watch the Memphis Tigers play in the Foreign Tour 2019…which, of course, we won!!! We also took a boat ride out to go snorkeling. Mark decided to stay on the boat most of the time. But I got to swim with the massive turtles in one location. And in another, I got to swim with the most beautiful fish I’ve ever seen. They were all different electric colors and sizes. I didn’t get pictures unfortunately. I was too afraid the salt water would damage my waterproof Samsung s10.

Hold on while I put a water-proof phone pouch in my Amazon cart while it’s on my mind…BRB….Bahamas Grand Hyatt Baha Mar Where to Eat Bahamas Where to EatThis was absolutely mouth-watering!!!

Have you ever visited the Bahamas? What was your experience? I’d love to know so that I can add it on my ‘To-Do’ list the next time I visit. I know this seems like a Grand Hyatt post, but I promise it’s not. The next time I’m in the Bahamas, I will definitely get out to where the locals are as well as sprinkle in some of your suggestions!

I know I’ve been M.I.A for a few months here on the blog. It just seems sometimes life gets in the way of doing what I love, which is blogging. I just know I have to make time when it seems there isn’t any, you know what I mean? But I promise to do better!!!
